Mini-rant. Pointless, probably. I've decided no one looks at my website at *all* anymore. My statistics counter broke sometime this summer (hello website person, fixy please), so for all I know, I get 0 visitors. Bah. So I'm quite possibly typing away for my own benefit only.

Here's my rant, or my proper rant, as that above was a rant as well. I'm a good seamstress/costumer/whatever you want to call it. Not the best in the world, but I'm good. I can fit really well, I research everything first, buy nice fabrics, hand sew, hand trim, etc. etc. I'm a stitch-counting perfectionist with expensive tastes for lots of eras. That doesn't make me a warm and fuzzy person to everyone, but that's what I am.

So why is it, oh world of facebook, I can post pictures of my creations and get no comments, no attentions, etc... whereas other people can post some ebay halloween-costume rejects farb-tasticness and are gushed over about their sewing capabilities and accomplishments? Authenticity looks better darn it! (I could say damn couldn't I? It's my website that only I read... it looks like). Further, why do friends who make historic costumes not ask me for help? Is it that Stitch Counting (heck! I could say Nazi, couldn't I!) Nazi aspect of me? Do non-historic people know that I criticize their farbness in my brain?

So, locally there is an annual "Victorian Ball". I am also actively involved in the local contra-dance community, which unfortunetly has a lot of cross-over into the living history community that makes my brain hurt. Friends don't let friends be farbs, but what about contra-dance friends? And can I tell the Ball-throwers that they would have a much better draw from the living history community if they promoted historical accuracy at least a teeny tiny bit?

So in short- ANYONE, friend, stranger, whatever... I will happily give you free advice on historical costuming! If you are a friend, I will invite you over to my home and help you make historically accurate clothing. Or at least somewhat historically accurate( if that is your goal).

Ball-Throwers- Little do you probably know, but you got off on a bad foot with me some 5 years ago when you showed up to a semi-immersion event I had spent MONTHS planning in your 1910s suit for the 1850s with a boombox. Friends had to physically restrain me from telling you off. I cried. Accuracy takes a lot of effort and you RUINED IT. I still want to kick you sometimes when I pass you in a contra line. Despite all this, I would really, really happily work with you to promote accuracy at your "ball". I would write helpful guidelines for your website. I would give classes and workshops on clothing instruction. Etiquette. Fashion History. I would promote among the living history community. I would get you a bigger crowd. I would.

I know I'm probably going to a special hell for all these lurking anger issues, but whatever. It's better I say it here (where I don't think anyone is listening) then on facebook which gets way more attention than necessary.

Oh yeah I have a stomach flu and am general miserable. And a fever, so sorry if I don't make perfect sense. My brain is addled. But I have finished the 18th century petticoats, and have my gown mostly done. Stitching the en forreau (sp?) back. Planning on ordering some bonnet silk soon. Trying to resist ordering a dress length of silk for an 1830s gown. I should not be willing to go into debt for fine fabrics when I'm not willing to for medical care, or dental care, or real-proper foods, or heat. Did I mention I am without full-time employment?

Hey, I have a bunch of historically minded guest posters lined up to post on my blog. I would be delighted if you would be interested in writing one for me. My blog covers a lot of periods so I don't mind if you choose something that you like. I normally focus on the 1700s and the 1860s.

Please e-mail me and tell me what you think.

    Dear Stormi,
How I love your site, and blog, which I have only recently discovered. I too dance English and contra, and have been a docent and re-enactor in the past (I could elabourate, but it woud sound immodest of me), so a lot of what you write is very familiar to me. I too have recently put up an etsy shop, but I have a day job, so getting things made up for it is often a challenge, and I have nothing in it at the moment.

Please do not be discouraged at the lack of commentary, here or at FB. My experience is that many people lurk; many more people read sites and blogs than comment - often in cases such as this becasue they don't feel competent to do so beyond 'wow! I wish I could do that!' We are a rather exclusive and weird bunch it seems, we hardcore authenicity doyennes. But keep the faith, and please keep on writing!

    Je suis bien à vous
