This child's jacket is made of wool and dates from the first half of the 1860s. The wool is a twill weave. The lining is a red and black striped wool. It measures 16" long and 15" across the chest. All visible stitching is hand done.

All edges of the jacket are bound in woven wool tape.

The jacket closes with one button at the neck.

There is Greek-Key trim along the edges of the jacket. The trim is made of narrow wool braid and hand applied. The attaching stitches of the trim does not show on the lining.

The red and black striped wool lining is pieced throughout, demonstrating the resourcefulness of the creator. The sleeves are not lined in the wool as the rest of the jacket, but rather in an off-white polished cotton.
