Bustle

This bustle is constructed of black silk with a brown polished cotton lining. The black silk has a checked or windowpane weave. It is trimmed with self-fabric trim, which has a narrow hem on both sides with a hand running-stitch finish.

The brown polished cotton lining is pieced throughout. The interior bustle appears to be a dense wool stuffed cushion. The cushion is a circle shape with white cotton on one side and a floral cotton on the other.
In the bustles current state, the silk is two weak to support the weight of the cushion and for that reason is not displayed how it would have been worn. There are two ties at the top of the U on either side of the waist. These would tie around the waist, which would let the bustle rest in the small of the back. The fabric would come around making a skirt around the wearer.
